Nectria cinnabarina : ウィキペディア英語版 | Nectria cinnabarina
''Nectria cinnabarina'' is a plant pathogen that causes cankers on many tree species and also a disease known as coral spot. A study published in 2011 showed〔(A morphological and phylogenetic revision of the Nectria cinnabarina species complex ), Y. Hirooka, A.Y. Rossman, and P. Chaverri, Studies in Mycolology, 2011; 68: 35–56.〕 that this species is actually a complex consisting of at least 4 distinct species. This polycyclic disease infects hardwood trees in the cool temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. == Hosts and Symptoms == ''N. cinnabarina'', also known as coral spot, is a weak pathogen of broadleaf trees. While beech is the main host, the parasite can also affect Sycamore, Horse Chestnut, and Hornbeam. It usually affects trees that have already been weakened as a result of stressful factors, such as drought or fungal infestation. Physical damage can also make the tree susceptible to the pathogen. The pathogen forms pink blobs on the outside of dead wood which turn a reddish brown color and become quite hard. The blobs are usually 1 to 4 mm in length. Other symptoms include small twigs and branches dying back and necrosis〔Nectria cinnabarina (Tode) Fr. - Coral Spot. (n.d.). Retrieved October 22, 2015. http://www.first-nature.com/fungi/nectria-cinnabarina.php〕 The pathogen thrives in dead wood and airborne spores infect living trees and shrubs through wounds. Since it is caused by a weak fungus, isolation of the pathogen from diseased tissue can aid in diagnosis.〔Coral spot - Nectria cinnabarina. (n.d.). Retrieved October 22, 2015.〕
